National Health Care Surveys (NHCS) IG Release 1.2 Validator
Notice
The purpose of this site is to facilitate testing of National Health Care Surveys CDA XML documents conformant to HL7 CDA® R2 Implementation Guide: National Health Care Surveys Release 1, DSTU Release 1.2 – US Realm, August 2016, Draft Standard for Trial Use (DSTU) for certification and other purposes.
It is important to note that ONC issued a revised Certification Companion Guide (CCG) on May, 2017 that “Clarified that ONC will permit and provide testing and certification for conformance to NHCS IG Release 1.2 to meet this criterion; and will not require the retesting and certification of health IT previously certified to NHCS Release 1.0.” (See https://www.healthit.gov/test-method/transmission-public-health-agencies-health-care-surveys ).
It is also important to note, that the National Health Care Surveys (NHCS) strongly prefers developers and implementers to use NHCS IG Release 1.2 to fulfill certification criteria § 170.315(f)(7). (See https://www.hl7.org/implement/standards/product_brief.cfm?product_id=385 )

In compliance with HIPAA Requirements, parties using the NIST National Healthcare Surveys Validation Tool via this NIST Web site shall not use real data about living, identifiable individuals. Parties shall adhere to all Federal Regulations including, but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Due to patient confidentiality issues (e.g., HIPAA requirements regarding PHI), this software should not be used via the NIST Web site for validation of messages containing real patient information. With proper precautions in place to maintain patient confidentiality, if an organization downloads the Validation Tool and uses it locally the Tool can validate messages with real patient information.
